Pruning:
Pruning is the most common tree maintenance service that we provide. Although forest trees grow quite well with only nature's pruning, landscape trees require a higher level of care to maintain their safety and aesthetics. Pruning should be done with an understanding of how the tree responds to each cut. Improper pruning can cause damage that will last for the life of the tree, or worse, shorten the tree's life. Common reasons for pruning are to remove dead branches, to remove crowded or rubbing limbs and to eliminate hazards. Trees may also be pruned to increase light and air penetration to the inside of the tree's crown or to the landscape below. In most cases, mature trees are pruned as a corrective or preventative measure. Our pruning methods are based upon the American National Standards Institute A-300 Pruning Standards, this important industry standard has been adopted by the International Society of Arborcultue as the guideline for proper pruning. Cabling/Bracing:
Through the use of special high strength cable and other hardware, we can provide physical support for weak branches and stems to increase their strength and stability. For example, multiple stemmed trees have a tendency to split apart during high winds or after being overloaded with snow or ice. Professionally installed hardware in the canopy of a tree can prevent this terminal injury. Also, trees that are splitting can be pulled back together then braced and cabled to prevent the tree from totally failing. Back to top

Removal:
Although tree removal is a last resort, there are circumstances when it is necessary. Our ISA Certified Arborist can help you decide whether or not a tree should be removed. If so, our professional tree workers have the skills and equipment to safely and efficiently do the job. Experience, training and the most updated equipment allows our workers to remove trees safely and economically with minimal disturbance to the landscape and surrounding vegetation. We will recommend removal if a tree is dead, dying, or considered irreparadly hazardous. Removal is necessary when a tree is causing an obstruction or is crowding and causing harm to other trees and the situation is impossible to correct through pruning. Finally, removal is necessary if the tree is to be replaced by a more suitable specimen. Back to top

Stump Removal
A stump that is left after a tree has been removed is both unsightly and a potential safety hazard. With our stump cutter, we are able to remove the stump and surface roots. We typically cut up to 18" below the surface of the ground to ensure unobstructed digging if the site is to be used for replanting. Usually, we back fill the stump hole with the material (wood chips and soil) created through the cutting. If requested, the material can be hauled away and topsoil can be brought in to grade off the area. With a little grass seed and straw you would never know a tree was ever there. Back to top

Planting:
We can help you through all phases of new or replacement tree planting. Think of a tree as a lifetime investment. How well your tree and investment grows depends on the type of tree and the location in which it is planted, the care taken when the tree is planted and the follow-up care the tree receives after planting. Planting during the right time of year is also important in the success of your tree. The ideal time to plant trees and shrubs is during the dormant seasonin the fall after the leaves have fallen or early spring before bud-break. Weather conditions are cool and allow plants to establish roots in the new location before spring rains and summer heat stimulate new top growth. Back to top

Lot Clearing/Building Site Consultation:
New home construction often calls for the removal of several trees and stumps especially on popular wooded lots. Homes are constructed in the midst of trees to take advantage of the aesthetic and environmental value of the wooded lots. Unfortunately, the processes involved with construction can be deadly to the nearby trees that you wish to preserve. Further, unless the damage is extreme, the trees may not die immediately, but could decline over several years. With this delay in symptom development, you may not associate the loss of the tree with the construction. It is possible to preserve trees on building sites if the right measures are taken. The most important step is to hire a professional arborist during the planning stage. Our ISA certified arborist can help you decide which trees can be saved, and can work with the builder to protect the trees throughout each construction phase. After developing a plan we have the equipment and trained professionals to remove the unwanted trees without harming the protected ones. Back to top

Premium Firewood:
Even though 90% of our wood waste is recycled into organic landscape mulch, we still save some of the true Pennsylvania hardwood logs for our premium firewood. We only use Oak, Cherry and Maple for our premium firewood. All of the wood is split, stacked and delivered by hand. This extra attention produces wood that is uniform in size, clean and free of dirt. Most importantly, our firewood is seasoned a minimum of 2 years, during which time it is kept in dry storage. This ensures dry, ready-to-burn woodperfect for roaring fires.
